Domestic travel on the rise

A survey by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment shows spending on domestic travel increased by almost $1.5 billion in the last year.

An annual phone survey of 15,000 people found more than $10 billion was spent on travel throughout New Zealand in the year to June - a rise of 16% on the previous year.

The ministry says the increase reflects higher food and petrol prices.

Business travel, in particular, had an increase of $600 million in spending.
