Cybercrime report

A new report says cybercrime cost New Zealand $463 million last year.

The Norton Cybercrime Report estimates that more than 900,000 people or 39% of online adults in New Zealand were victims of cybercrime in the past 12 months.

The survey showed an increase in new forms of cybercrime, such as those found on social networks or mobile devices.

While three quarters of those surveyed believe that cybercriminals are setting their sights on social networks, the report said a third actually use a security solution to protect them from threats and less than half use the privacy settings.

Norton said people should protect their emails by using complex passwords and changing them regularly.
