Apple has unveiled the iPhone 5. It features a taller screen, allowing it to display an extra row of app icons on its home screen.
Apple says it is 18% thinner and 20% lighter than the iPhone 4S.
The screen measures 10.2 centimetres - which is still smaller than rival devices.
The latest iPhone's performance will prove critical to Apple's fortunes.
iPhone and related services and accessories accounted for more than half of Apple's $US120 billion net sales in the nine months to July.
At the end of last week the company was worth $US638 billion based on its share price.
