Manufacturing index down

7:05 pm on 13 September 2012

Activity in the manufacturing sector is down to its lowest level in nine months, due to reduced production and new orders.

The BNZ-Business New Zealand Performance of Manufacturing Index fell 2.2 points to 47.2 points in August, compared with July.

A reading below 50 indicates the sector is contracting.

The Manufacturing Index is at the lowest level it's been since last November.

Production, employment, new orders and deliveries all contracted further.

Business New Zealand's Catherine Beard says the market in general is slow.
