Freight venture set to widen

8:48 am on 18 September 2012

The freight partnership between Fonterra and Silver Fern Farms, Kotahi, aims to bring additional shareholders on board the joint venture over the next 12 months.

Kotahi coordinates domestic and international freight services to ensure better shipping schedules and bigger ships.

The company had its first anniversary in August, and it is six months since the Commerce Commission gave the freight tie-up the green light.

Kotahi chief executive Chris Greenough says it was an eventful year to go live, with the biggest dairy season in New Zealand's history, port strikes and the Rena disaster.

However, he says it has been a successful year and the focus is on finding new partners and customers.
