NZX 50 rises 41 points

The NZX 50 index lifted 1.08% on Tuesday, when it rose 41.22 points to close at 3871 on turnover of $114 million.

Accounting software retailer Xero jumped 20 cents to $5.40 after saying it expects to double operating revenues in the first half of its financial year

Auckland Airport rose 5.5 cents to $2.68, and Air NZ lifted 2.5 cents to $1.21, while Cavalier was up 1 cent to $1.97.

Contact Energy rose 5 cents to $5.27, Fisher and Paykel Appliances was up 1 cent at $1.205, and Fisher and Paykel Healthcare rose 2 cents to $2.27.

Rises in some of the high-profile stocks included Mainfreight (up 12 cents to $10.39), Freightway (up 7 cents to $4.27), and Fletcher Building (up 10 cents to $7.16).

Nuplex rose to 8 cents to $2.93, Chorus rose 4 cents to $3.28, and cornerstone stock Telecom rose 3.5 cents to $2.40.

Sky City rose 6 cents to $3.80, and Sky TV rose 3 cents to $5.11.

The Warehouse fell 1 cent to $2.95, Heartland fell 1 cent to 66 cents, and big insurer and financier Tower fell 3 cents to $1.77.

At the close of the local business day, the New Zealand dollar was buying 82.90 US cents, 80.04 Australian cents, 51.37 British pence, 64.75 Japanese yen, 0.6426 of a euro and the TWI was at 73.87 points.
