KFC says it will trial table service when it opens a new store in north Auckland this week.
The company, which is part of the listed Restaurant Brands Group, says the move follows a recent table-service pilot in its Lower Hutt store.
The trial is part of a major transformation of the 97 KFC stores.
KFC general manager Brent Kitto says after 40 years in the market the company's aim is to be innovative.
"We need to do something differently ... its innovate or die," he says.
A lot of cafes had offered similar partial table service for years, and Mr Kitto says that if the North Auckland trial is successful it will roll out the concept to other stores.
Restaurant Brands also owns Pizza Hut and Carl's Junior.
