Auckland Airport Ltd says international passenger volumes rose by 1.4% in September, compared with the same month last year.
Chinese routes were the strongest performers with a third more passengers than last September, while people bound for Pacific Island holidays rose by 9% and Queensland routes up more than 8%.
The number of New Zealand residents arriving at Auckland airport in September rose by nearly 16%from the same month last year, while overseas visitor arrivals fell.
The company says this was mainly due to the impact of the Rugby World Cup.
For the first time, China was the second largest inbound market for the 12 months to September, moving ahead of Britain and the United States.
