NZX 50 falls 32 points

The NZX 50 index fell 32 points (0.8%) on Monday to close at 3951 points on a low turnover of $58 million.

Telecom fell 3.5 cents to $2.43, Sky City fell 1 cent to $3.88, and Fisher & Paykel Appliances fell 0.5 cent to $1.26.

Infratil dropped 3 cents to $2.34, Kathmandu fell 2 cents to $1.83, Mainfreight fell 1 cent to $10.69.

Port of Tauranga fell 7 cents to $12.92, Pumpkin Patch fell 3 cents to $1.20, Ryman fell 4 cents to 4, and Trustpower fell 2 cents to $8.20.

Chorus was unchanged to $3.40.

Shares in Wellington retailer Kirkcaldie & Stains surged after an announcement that it will sell its Harbour City Centre building.

The company says the offer is conditional on the unnamed bidder carrying out due diligence checks by the middle of next month, as well as getting approval from Kirk's directors and shareholders.

Kirk's shares rose 65 cents to $3.25 each.

Sky TV rose 2 cents to $5.33, Fletcher Building rose 2 cents to $7.14, Contact rose 2 cents to $5,47, Restaurant Brands rose 4 cents to $2.46 and Trade Me rose 3 cents to $4.41,

Auckland Airport rose 1.5 cents to $2.685, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare rose 2 cents to $2.38, and big retailer Warehouse rose 2 cents to $3.26.

Diligent rose 3 cents to $3.68, Goodman Fielder rose 1 cent to 74 cents, Hallenstein Glasson rose 1 cent to $4.96, and Nuplex rose 1 cent to $3.04.

At the close of the business day, the NZ dollar was trading at 82.12 US centrs, 79.27 Australian cents, 51.04 pence, 65.46 yen, 0.6351 of a euro and the TWI was at 73.30 points.
