NZX 50 rises 26 points on Monday

The NZX 50 index rose 26 points to 3984 on sharemarket turnover of $78 million on Monday.

Telecom rose 2.5 cents to $2.435, Xero jumped 50 cents to $6.30, and Fletcher Building also lifted sharply, by 24 cents to $7.48.

TradeMe, lifted 7 cents to $4.14; TrustPower rose 2 cents to $8.55; Auckland Airport rose 0.5 cents to $2.66; and Chorus rose 3 cents to $3.27.

PGG Wrightson rose 1 cent to 34 cents, Port of Tauranga rose 5 cents to $13.00, Ryman Healthcare rose 5 cents to $4.06, Restaurant Brands rose 1 cent to $2.69, and Xero was up 50 cents to $6.30.

Stocks unchanged in price at the end of trade included Nuplex ($2.97) and NZOG (89 cents).

AMP fell 3 cents to $5.86, and Australian-controlled Contact dropped 14 cents to $5.21.

Diligent Board slipped 2 cents to $3.75, Freightways was down 1 cent at $4.38, while outdoors equipment retailer Kathmandu fell 3 cents to $1.67, and Mainfreight fell 6 cents to $10.40.

Sky City fell 1 cent to $3.90, and Vector dropped 2 cents to $2.75.

At the end of the business day, the NZ dollar was buying 81.61 US cents, 78.33 Australian cents, 51.32 British pence, 64.85 Japanese yen, 0.6412 of a euro and the TWI was at 73.05 points.

Across the Tasman, Australia's sharemarket edged lower in late trade to close down around a third of a percentage point, with resource and energy stocks leading the falls.

The All Ordinaries lost 13 points to 4470, while the ASX 200 gave back 14 points to close at 4448.
