Job cuts possible at steel company

7:07 am on 15 November 2012

Steel & Tube says it can't rule out job losses as it consolidates the business.

The industry has been hit by lower demand, due to the global economy and the high New Zealand dollar.

And the pick up in rebuilding Christchurch is offset by weak activity throughout most the country.

About two years ago, Steel & Tube changed its business model and has started cutting the number of sites it occupies in a region to about one or two.

The company says this brings together all its products and saves money.

Chief executive Dave Taylor says this will continue throughout the country which could mean job cuts.
