The naming rights for a $188 million stadium in Dunedin have been secured by the sharebroking and investment firm Forsyth Barr.

A 10 year agreement has been signed by the company and the Carisbrook Stadium Trust, for an undisclosed sum.

The stadium will be named Forsyth Barr Stadium at University Plaza.

The University of Otago has naming rights to the stadium plaza.

Dunedin City Council meets in next month to decide if the project has a future. It is intended to replace Carisbrook stadium.

Forsyth Barr chairman Eion Edgar says he certainly hopes it does and that other businesses and individuals will pledge money to the stadium.

He says it would be a versatile facility for sports, business, community events and education.
