New Zealand sharemarket gains ground

The New Zealand market rose in Tuesday trading with the benchmark NZX50 index rising 13 points to close at 3979 on a turnover of $90 million.

Among the major movements, Auckland Airport rose 3 cents to $2.66, Air New Zealand was down 3.5 cents at $1.28 and AMP ended the day up 5 cents at $5.95.

Contact Energy was up 8 cents to $5.09, Chorus gained one cent to $2.70 and Diligent Board Member Services closed up13 cents at $5.

Fletcher Building shed 4 cents to $8.10, Freightway was down 2 cents to $4.20 and Mainfreight was up 2 cents to $11.07.

Heartland New Zealand gained1 cent to closed at 70 cents.

Refining NZ gained 7 cents to close at $2.42, Ryman Healthcare was down 3 cents to $4.35 and Trade Me was down 4 cents at $4.01.

In currency markets, at 5.20pm the New Zealand dollar was buying 84.42 US, 80.07 Australian, 52.06 pence, 70.98 yen and .6409 euro.

The Trade Weighted Index stood at 75.27.
