Low-cost flights launched by Air France

Updated at 7:33 am on 8 January 2013

Air France has started selling budget tickets to 58 destinations in Europe and the Mediterranean to compete with low-cost carriers.

AAP reports fares start from 49 euros for passengers who travel with carry-on baggage. The new fares apply to flights from Orly airport, Marseille, Nice and Toulouse.

In a statement, Air France said the programme was aimed at the 60% of clients for whom the lowest price was the most important factor.

Chairman Alexandre de Juniac said low-cost tickets went on sale on Monday for flights beginning on 6 February.
