Microsoft to end Messenger service

1:05 pm on 12 January 2013

Microsoft says it will switch off its Windows Live Messenger service in March.

As from 15 March the Messenger log-ins will no longer work and users must turn to Skype.

An email sent to all users also encourages them to update to Skype and familiarise themselves with the service before the switch-off, the BBC reports

The change is a consequence of Microsoft's acquisition of Skype in October 2011.
