Trans-Tasman airline alliance quashed

Australia's competition watchdog has banned a tie-up between Qantas and Emirates on routes between Australia and New Zealand because of fears it may lead to higher air fares.

However the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has given a preliminary green light to an alliance between the two airlines on other routes.

Qantas and Emirates are proposing to start collaborating from April on sales, pricing, market, ticketing, scheduling and capacity co-ordination.
