Australian-owned bank BNZ says its cash earnings rose in the three months to December due to volume growth and higher fee income.

The bank says bad debts remained stable.

Its parent, National Australia Bank, said first-quarter cash earnings rose by about 4% to $1.45 billion in the December quarter, boosted by rising revenues and a fall in bad debts.
