Interest in Mainzeal expressed by Ceres NZ

Updated at 12:46 pm on 9 February 2013

A Christchurch company is keen to take over the collapsed construction company Mainzeal and keep most of its employees.

Mainzeal went into receivership on Wednesday, putting the jobs of 400 employees and many sub- contractors in jeopardy.

Ceres New Zealand says it is in everyone's interest to get Mainzeal's projects around the country back on track as soon as possible.

Ceres New Zealand has its head office in Christchurch and specialises in disaster recovery, seismic strengthening and construction.

New Zealand manager Bernie De Vere said the company won't be in a position to make a formal offer for Mainzeal until the receivers have finished their work. He said the firm is ready and able to take on Mainzeal's staff and projects.
