Govt Statistician moving to Reserve Bank

Statistics New Zealand chief executive Geoff Bascand has resigned to become the new deputy governor and head of operations at the Reserve Bank.

Mr Bascand has been Government Statistician for the past six years, after three years as deputy.

He has also held senior positions at the Department of Labour and the Treasury, as well working as a senior economist at the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC.

Mr Bascand will finish at Statistics NZ at the end of May.
