Record year for NZ oil production

1:27 pm on 19 March 2009

Last year was a record year for New Zealand oil production.

The Ministry of Economic Development's energy quarterly publication says crude oil and condensate production in the year to December, was the largest on record, yielding 128 petajoules of energy.

This was up 45% on 2007.

Despite the record volume, production tailed off later in the year at the Tui oilwell. This is expected to be made up this year with production underway at the Maari field.
