Sky City still willing to invest in convention centre

Casino operator Sky City Entertainment says it is still willing to invest $350 million to build and operate an international convention centre in Auckland, if it can agree an acceptable return with the Government.

The company was commenting in the wake a report from the office of the Auditor-General which found there was nothing wrong with the Government's decision to negotiate with Sky City over building the centre.

It said, however, that the casino operator received preferential treatment and that the other bidders had been treated unfairly.

Sky City now expects to restart talks over building the venue, although it wants more gaming machines and an extension to its license in return.
