Partial production back at Algerian gas plant

5:24 am on 25 February 2013

The Algerian government says the gas plant where at least 37 foreigners were killed last month, has resumed partial production.

The plant was seized by gunman just before dawn on 16 January and held for several days. Hostages were executed before the Algerian army retook the site.

The Tiguentourine plant about 50km from the town of In Amenas produces about 9 billion cubic metres per year. Production this year is expected to be about 3 billion cubic metres.

It is operated by BP in partnership with Statoil of Norway and Sonatrach, the state energy company in Algeria.
