Billionaires getting richer

There are now more billionaires than ever and they are getting richer, according to the latest list of compiled by Forbes Magazine.

Forbes said Mexican telecommunications magnate Carlos Sim remains the world's richest person, with an estimated worth of $US73 billion. He's followed by Microsoft founder Bill Gates, with a fortune of $US67 billion.

New at number three on the list is Amancio Ortega of Spain, who owns Zara, the world's biggest clothing company, and is said to be worth $US57 billion.

Investor Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway, ranked fourth with $US53.5 billion and Oracle chief executive Larry Ellison rated fifth with $US43 billion.

Asia's richest man, Li Ka-shing, came eighth with $US31 billion.

Forbes said more than 200 people joined the billionaires list this year.
