Receivers assess offers for Geon

The receivers of printing firm Geon are assessing offers for the New Zealand arm of the failed company.

Receivers McGrath Nicol met New Zealand staff on Monday and reportedly told workers the firm's operations would continue for at least this week while they tried to secure a buyer.

Last week, Geon's Christchurch-based label company Kiwi Labels was bought by Blue Star Group.

Geon has sites in Auckland, Tauranga, Napier, Palmerston North, New Plymouth, Hamilton and Wellington.

Blue Star bought three of Geon's New South Wales and Victorian sites earlier this month, but the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union says employees from those facilities have essentially all been made redundant, with the prospect of being re-employed by Blue Star at a later date.

Meanwhile, McGrathNicol has indicated it will continue Geon's operations in Tasmania and Perth while it completes talks with potential buyers of the businesses in those states.

Geon was bought by private equity firms Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Allegro less than six months ago.
