Book publisher merger cleared

10:06 am on 20 March 2013

The Commerce Commission has cleared the way for book publishers Random House and Penguin to merge.

In assessing the application the commission looked at the potential impact of the merger in the markets for book publishing rights, printed book distribution services and the wholesale of books.

The commission is satisfied the acquisition will not lessen competition.

The new jointly owned company will be known as Penguin Random House.
