Big jump in NZ use of tablet technology

Researchers estimate more than 600,000 New Zealanders will own tablet devices this year as more people buy different equipment to access the internet.

Nielsen's report into trends in 2012 shows more people who are digitally connected are using wireless and mobile technology.

Nearly all New Zealanders who are online are using a broadband connection at home, and more than threequarters use the internet through a wireless connection.

Nielsen says people are now using a multitude of devices to make accessing the internet more convenient.

It says nearly 400,000 own a tablet, which is like a laptop but without a keyboard, and it expects the figure could grow to 600,000 this year.
