The head of Fisher & Paykel Healthcare says its new $95 million building in Auckland will enable the company to more than double its revenue to $1 billion in five years.

The Paykel Building, named after long-standing board member Gary Paykel, was officially opened on Friday by the Prime Minister.

The 32,000-square-metre facility will accommodate growth in research and development, clinical marketing, new product manufacturing and a logistics hub for shipments to more than 120 countries around the world.

The company says it expects the number of the people working there to increase from 1700 to more than 2500 over time.

Chief executive Mike Daniell says the building is a major investment in its New Zealand operations, and important for the growth of the company.
