Telecom HR style labelled 'brutal' by lawyer

Documents sent to Telecom staff about job cuts and changes have been labelled as brutal by an employment law specialist.

The emails by chief executive Simon Moutter have been passed on by an employee to a Labour MP.

The comments include suggesting that if staff don't think Telecom is the right place for them, they should talk to the HR team about their options.

Cullen Law partner Peter Cullen believes the brutal tone may be intended to encourage employees to leave.

Telecom has said it plans to shed up to 930 jobs by the middle of this year.

In a statement, Telecom's general manager of corporate relations said the chief executive has made a point of being upfront with staff and feedback indicates the majority have respected this.
