Tourism New Zealand expects the number of international visitors to the country to remain strong over the remainder of the year.
Official figures show more than 270,000 people visited New Zealand last month - up 13% on the year before - breaking the previous record for the month of March.
Visitor numbers surged in Australia, China, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan and Germany - and Statistics New Zealand puts it down to Easter falling earlier in the year.
Tourism New Zealand chief executive Kevin Bowler said there appears to have been an overall upturn across the market.
He expects April to be a bit softer given that there will not be Easter nor the cricket touring visitors, but overall there have been some very good results.
Mr Bowler said what's terrific about the March figures is strong performances from some of New Zealand's traditional markets like Australia, the US and some of the European countries.
