Kathmandu shares rising again

12:34 pm on 1 May 2013

Shares in Kathmandu have risen after the company experienced a stronger end to its Easter sales promotion following weaker sales.

The clothing retailer said on Wednesday that sales through to the end of March have been hurt by the warm and dry autumn both here and across the Tasman, but particularly in New Zealand.

Total sales rose 12.5% to almost $90 million for the 13 weeks to the end of January, compared with the same period a year earlier at constant exchange rates.

Sales in stores open at least a year, were up 4.1% in the latest reporting period.

In the last four weeks of the period, the weather returned to more normal autumn patterns and the company experienced a strong end to its Easter sale promotion.

Shares in Kathmandu have risen 15 cents, or 6%, to $2.40 each on Wednesday.
