Q3 profit tripled by News Corp

News Corporation has more than tripled its third-quarter profit, despite around $US42 million in phone hacking costs.

In the three months to the end of March, News Corp made a net profit of $US2.85 billion.

The company made $US937 million during the same time last year.

The ABC reports revenue increased to more than $US9.5 billion during the quarter.

News Corporation's latest profit result shows world-wide publishing income fell to $85 million during the quarter, from $130 million a year ago.

Costs related to The News of the World phone-hacking scandal amounted to $US42 million during the March quarter.
