IBM refuses to comment on reports of Australian job cuts

IBM is refusing to comment on reports that it is cutting up to 1500 Australian staff and sending jobs to Asia and New Zealand.

Australian media are reporting that between 1200 and 1500 local jobs are being made redundant this year in several waves.

IBM says that for competitive reasons it does not discuss the details of staffing plans.

IBRS analyst Alan Hansell says New Zealand is likely to benefit the most from the cuts because of its cheaper real estate, lower mandatory superannuation and labour rates.
