Fall in property values slows

Quotable Value says property values are falling more slowly now than earlier this year.

Property values in September were down 1.1% on the same time last year, after falling by 2.8% in August.

The agency says house values are still 7.1% below their peak in late 2007.

QV valuation manager Glenda Whitehead says there's more activity in the market, but fewer listings than expected for this time of year.

The average sale price across New Zealand was $387,567 in September, up from $385,426 in August.

Both Barfoot & Thompson, the largest real estate company in Auckland, and the Real Estate Instititue of New Zealand have noted a growth in volumes and prices in recent months.
