Comvita markedly increases six-month profit

Comvita has made a $1.6 million profit in the six months to September, almost seven times what it made in the same period last year.

The honey and health products firm says its sales increased 27% to just over $40 million, and it has generally escaped any significant effects of the downturn.

It says demand for winter wellness healthcare products has been particularly strong in the Southern Hemisphere during winter, and it is now entering its peak sales period in the Northern Hemisphere.

The company says its markets are looking positive and it will pay an interim dividend of 2 cents per share.
