Fourth day of gains for markets

The Top 50 share index rose 30 points to 4524, its fourth consecutive trading day of gains at close on Tuesday.

Significant gainers on Tuesday included outdoor clothing retailer Kathmandu which was up 20 cents to $2.70, insurance company AMP rose 16 cents to $5.21 and Energy Mad was up 6 cents to 36 cents.

Retirement village operator Summerset, rose 9 cents to $2.97 and auction website TradeMe gained 11 cents to $4.80.

A little steam came out of accounting software company Xero's stock which fell $1.39, or 7.4% to $17.40. Xero shares rose 45 cents on Monday and gained $2.19 last week.

Interest rates eased slightly on Tuesday, in line with a fall in US interest rates.
