Convenor appointed to form single wool group

Agriculture Minister David Carter has appointed a former banker and Treasury official to head discussions on forming a single body to represent the divided wool industry.

The new wool organisation was one recommendation to come from a taskforce the minister set up to advise on restoring profitability to the strong wool sector.

Murray Horn will act as an independent convenor for a meeting of wool representaives to begin the process of forming a single voice for the industry.

Dr Horn is a former secretary of the Treasury and chief executive of the ANZ Bank's New Zealand operations. He is on the board of Telecom and is chair of the National Health Board.

Mr Carter says the Government is serious about uniting the wool sector and moving it forward. He is urging everyone in the industry to play a constructive role in achieving that.
