Airlines are seeking a cut in landing fees and charges at regional airports in Australia.
The Australian Airports Association said small airports, often operated by councils, are already struggling as they work to provide essential infrastructure requirements and meet security upgrades.
"About one-third of our regional airports owned by local government bodies are making a loss," said association chief executive Caroline Wilkie.
On top of that, airlines are seeking reductions in landing charges and other concessions and rebates, she said.
"This is not sustainable for regional airport operators and the communities they serve."
AAP reports the association has called for airlines to work with airport operators to ensure the survival and growth of regional facilities.
