Abano's disaffected shareholders have challenged the company's chairman, Trevor Janes, to hold two public debates with them.

The challenge came the same day the company announced the special meeting Peter Hutson and James Reeves requisitioned to vote on removing Mr Janes will be held on Friday, 13 June.

Mr Hutson and Mr Reeves, who own 18.5 percent of Abano between them, complain about what they say is Mr Janes' increasingly extreme behaviours and claim he is unwilling to address the real issues.

They claim Mr Janes is manipulating the special meeting process and about what they call his avoidance behaviour.

The pair also complain of the Shareholders Association's lack of objectivity. The association has come out strongly in support of Mr Janes.

The association has said a number of Mr Hutson and Mr Reeves' claims are directly contradicted by documentary evidence. Both men again declined to be interviewed by Radio New Zealand.
