Consumer confidence high

Consumer confidence remains high, particularly among young adults, who appear to be more focussed on job growth and a strong economy, than on ongoing high interest rates.

The ANZ-Roy Morgan Consumer Confidence survey reached a seven-year high in July, among young people between the ages of 18 and 24.

While the overall index rose just a single point to 133 points in July, it is still considered significant, given a climate of high interest rates that are expected to go even higher.

The survey suggests householders feel better off financially than they did a year ago, and still consider it a good time to buy a major appliance.
