NZD awaits key US economic data

The New Zealand dollar was little changed on Wednesday against the currencies of all the major trading partners.

Senior foreign exchange strategist at ANZ, Sam Tuck, says the New Zealand dollar is little changed as the market awaits key economic data out of the United States overnight Wednesday.

Among the key indicators, is the US. second quarter GDP data. The central bank will also release a statement outlining its latest monetary policies, early Thursday morning, New Zealand time.

Sam Tuck said markets are expecting the Q2 GDP to come in at about three percent growth, offsetting the 2.9 percent decline in Q1 GDP.

He also said markets will be watching the FOMC review of the recent improvements in US data with interest and are expecting US dollars to be bought overnight in anticipation.

At about 5pm Wednesday the kiwi was trading at 85.10 US cents, 90.69 Australian cents, 50.22 British pence, 0.6348 euro, 86.87 yen and 5.26 renminbi.
