Trading activity was flat on the New Zealand share market, with the NZX 50 index closing down 4.4 points to 3144 on a turnover of $75 million.
Telecom ended the day down 5c to $3.40, while Fletcher Building was unchanged at $6.51. Contact Energy was up 3c to $8.09, and Sky City Entertainment was up 1c to $3.02. Vector was also up 1c to $2.05. New Zealand Oil and Gas was up 2c to $1.56.
The dollar was buying 76.07 US cents, 77.98 Australian cents, 38.01 pence, 80.98 yen and 0.4776 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was 67.24.
The Australian share market was relatively flat after modest losses on United States markets overnight, and took a breather from big gains on Monday.
The S&P/ASX200 index fell 6.2 points to 5005.6, while the All Ordinaries added 0.5 points to 5075.9.
The September share price index futures contract lost nine points to 4993 on volume of 20,903 contracts.
