Under this deal, Tait will manage the utility's radio system.

The communications company says Pacific Gas and Electric is one of the largest combined natural gas and electricity providers in the United States, delivering services to 16 million people in northern and central California.

The contract includes Tait supplying around-the-clock software and hardware support, and stationing an engineer at the utility's base.

That package is part of Tait's managed services business, which the company launched last year.

Executive vice president of global services Judd Cain said managing a critical communications network requires an extensive set of skills and tools, which Tait has.

The business is no stranger to picking up clients overseas; already operating in 150 countries.

Tait is a private company and so will not disclose the value of the contract.
