Job adverts still down

5:54 pm on 10 January 2010

Job vacancies listed on the Trade Me website are still down by more than a third on a year ago, but the company says figures have stabilised.

Some 48,000 jobs were advertised on the site between June - December 2009 - the same number that was listed in the first six months of the year.

But, compared to the six months from June to December in 2008, listings are down by around 37%.

Listings are down 25% on that period in 2007.

Keith Muirhead from Trade Me Jobs says across the board more work was advertised during the period than was expected.

Mr Muirhead says industries such as construction, banking and tourism are showing signs of a rebound.

He says 3% more jobs were advertised in Christchurch in the second half of 2009 than the same period the previous year, whereas the number of advertised jobs in Wellington fell by 7%.
