End of the line signalled for Ford Falcon

9:52 pm on 12 January 2010

Ford has signalled an end to its Australian Falcon model, saying only one large car will be built for all world markets under the company's One Ford programme.

The Ford Falcon has been a mainstay of Australian motoring for 50 years, the ABC reports.

The model has also been popular in New Zealand.

Speaking at the Detroit motor show, Ford's United States chief executive Alan Mulally said the Americas, Russia and Asia-Pacific will each make up a third of the company's future motor vehicle markets.

However, he says the days of making unique vehicles for individual countries are over.
