Abano Healthcare Group is buying more dental practices in Australia, describing the market as ripe for consolidation.

The listed private healthcare group has bought nine dental clinics in Queensland and plans to double that number within a year.

It's the group's second move to consolidate across the Tasman, after it acquired 57 audiology clinics there in the past year.

Managing director Alan Clarke says Abano intends to continue to expand, and is looking to buying another 10 practices there over the next year.

The group recently acquired Dunedin Hearing, an audiology business with six clinics.
