Fewer women in senior management - survey

A major consultancy firm says the number of women in senior management positions has hit an all-time low.

Figures released from the Grant Thornton International Business Report show New Zealand has dropped 13 places in a league table in one year.

Only 19 percent of New Zealand businesses surveyed have women in senior management, the lowest since the survey started in 2004 and nine percent below New Zealand's long run average of 28 percent.

A partner at Grant Thornton Stacey Davies said in just over a decade, the country had gone from being third out of those surveyed to being near the bottom.

New Zealand was now in the 12 worst countries for numbers of women in senior management.
