Listed property developer Kiwi Property is yet to decide whether to go ahead with a planned $200 million shopping centre expansion in Auckland.

It's announced international fashion chain Zara will open its first New Zealand store at the Sylvia Park site next year, after it signed up the clothing chain H&M.

The company is looking at a 20,000sqm expansion of the shopping centre, along with a potential office development, because of strong demand from retailers to set up shop there.

Kiwi Property's chief executive Chris Gudgeon said the company was still assessing the commercial viability.

"Deals like this Zara deal are important building blocks to putting together an expansion project like this," he said.

Mr Gudgeon said a final decision on whether it would go ahead would be made next year.
