The number of building consents rose in November to a 10-year high, with Auckland accounting for almost a third.
The number of consents for new dwellings rose a seasonally adjusted 1.8 percent in compared to the previous month, Statistics New Zealand says.

A total of 2,831 new dwellings were consented, with the Auckland region accounted for 966, followed by Canterbury with 573.
The number of consents was the highest in a month since March 2005, and 17 percent higher than a year ago.
Excluding apartments, rest homes and townhouses, which can be volatile, the number of consents in November for new houses was fractionally lower than the month before.
The value of all building work for the month was $1.6 billion, of which housing made up two-thirds.
