Benefits seen in NZ-Sth Korea free trade deal

A two-year study has found a free trade agreement between New Zealand and Korea would benefit both countries.

The Government now wants to hear from the public about the potential deal.

Minister of Trade Tim Groser says access to a market as large as Korea is important to economic growth and confidence in the current global climate.

He says he is confident the two Governments can move to a formal announcement following a domestic consultation process.

Korea is New Zealand's sixth largest export market, with total bilateral trade worth around $NZ2.5 billion a year.

The study was conducted by the Institute of Economic Research and the Korean Institute for International Economic Policy.
