Dairy exporters to gain better access to Thailand

2:21 pm on 26 July 2017

Dairy exporters will get better market access to Thailand.

Trade Minister Todd McClay said more dairy products could enter Thailand under a preferential tariff rate, under an agreement signed yesterday to upgrade the Thailand New Zealand Closer Economic Partnership.

Mr McClay said that could mean an increase of between 10 and 20 percent for some dairy products.

Thailand is now New Zealand's eighth largest market, with two-way trade worth about $3.5 billion in the year to May.

Thai Airways will also launch daily flights between Bangkok and Auckland later this year.
